We’re about 6 or 8 games into the 2022-2023 regular season of basketball here in North Georgia, and while some teams are still finding their identity, one thing is for certain. The Girls side of Region 7AAA is an absolute gauntlet.
Lumpkin, Pickens, White County, and Wesleyan are all ranked in the top ten in AAA Women’s basketball in the state of Georgia. Those four teams make up 40% of Kyle Sandy’s top 10 rankings for week 5.
It’s insane that one region would have this many actual state championship-contending teams, but yet here we are.
We’ve already gotten to see a few of these teams take the court across from one another, as Wesleyan took care of business in OT vs Lumpkin on 12/6 before falling to White County on 12/9.
The next top ten 7AAA matchups will take place on Friday when 7-1 Lumpkin County travels to 8-0 Pickens County for their first region battle.
The power of Region 7AAA doesn’t just stop with those four teams, however, as the Dawson County Lady Tigers are currently 6-2 and waiting to show what they’ve got vs a top 10 team in Pickens County on Tuesday of this week.
If you’re a fan of good basketball, pick any Region 7AAA game happening near you and you’ll be in for a treat.
Stay tuned to FYNSports for our more in-depth coverage of Region 7AAA as the year goes on.
