Blue Ridge- Fannin County High School was the site for yet another GHSA AA Sweet Sixteen basketball game, as Fannin County took on Washington County on Friday night. It wasn’t easy, but the Lady Rebels fought off the Golden Hawks and came away with a 52-36 dub.
Quick Game Notes-
After a back and forth first half, the Lady Rebels took a 20-19 lead into halftime. Coming out of the break, Becca Ledford dropped 6 quick points to make it 30-24 with less than 4 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter. A few possessions later Ledford stepped into the lane and took a charge, which led to a Fannin County triple that allowed the Lady Rebels to go up 34-24. Thanks to an oustanding 10 point quarter from Ledford, the Lady Rebels took a 38-32 lead into the fourth.
To start the fourth, Fannin came out and punched Washington County in the mouth. A quick 10-2 run to start the fourth led to the Lady Rebels ultimately outscoring Washington County 14-4 in the quarter. Washington County had no answer for the Rebels smothering second half defense, which ultimately led to the Rebels 52-36 victory. Fannin County is now on to the Elite 8 next week, where they will travel to familiar foe Josey on either Tuesday or Wednesday. Josey knocked off Fannin in the State Championship game in Macon last year, and you can bet the Rebels haven’t forgotten that one.
