Today, Feb. 3, Haley Parks signed a letter of intent to further her volleyball career at Truett McConnell University. Not only was Haley committing to play volleyball at Truett, but so was one of her closest teammates, Cheyanne Tilson. All of Haley’s friends and family filled the cafeteria for this special day.
Haley is a senior at Fannin County High School who has played the sport for the school for the past four years. Parks is an outstanding athlete who has been awarded for her success on the court as she received the Defensive Player of the Year award her sophomore year. Not only does the senior have achievements on the court, but also in the classroom. The scholar is a dual enrollment student at the University of North Georgia who also takes AP courses at the high school. She has been awarded for her academic success by being inducted into not only the National Honors Society, but also the National Technical Honors Society. The athlete is also very involved in clubs at the school as she has the title of Community Service Coordinator in FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America). When competing with the club, she won the FCCLA Star Event Competition on the national level. When asking the senior why she chose Truett McConell, she stated, “I chose Truett because it was a really good opportunity for me. I wanted the chance to play the sport I love beyond high school and the university gave me that opportunity.”
“Cheyanne and Haley have set examples of what is possible for players in this sport which receives very little if any recognition from the community and the school. It was my honor and privilege to have been a part of their high school careers and I look forward to following their achievements at Truett McConnell,” head coach of the Lady Rebels volleyball team, Jason Stanley, stated about his players.
