Bobcats defeat Rebels 40-38

It was a fast paced yet low scoring quarter as the Fannin Rebels took on the Gilmer County Bobcats in the last round of the Thanksgiving Tournament. The boys were closing out the tournament and fighting for the second place trophy. The Bobcats started off with the ball from tipoff where they wasted no time to earn their lead with a 3 point shot. Cohutta Hyde was the one to respond for Fannin as he made an outside shot to put the Rebels only one point behind the Bobcats. Landon Norton was the one to step up with a shot on the block to earn a 1 point lead for Fannin. Miles Johnson followed the trend as he made a basket to give the Rebels a 6-3 lead. Gilmer was able to catch back up and earn an 8-6 lead just for Johnson to do it again down low and tie up the game 8-8 to end the first quarter.

After the Bobcats were able to add another basket to their score, Jordan Bennett was the one to give Fannin the lead as he banked a 3 point shot to put the score at 11-10. Kaeden Twiggs followed the trend as he also added a 3 point shot to Fannin’s score to extend the lead 14-10. Fannin did a great job keeping the ball away from Gilmer as they were only able to score 6 points in the second quarter. Twiggs added a free throw to Fannin’s score which was followed by a jump shot from Hyde to give Fannin a 17-14 lead to go into halftime. 

Twiggs had a great night as he continued to add onto Fannin’s score and led Fannin in scoring for the night with 15 points. Hyde had grit as he ran right past Gilmer’s defense and added another jump shot to the Rebel’s score to put the score at 30-23 with the Bobcats still ahead to end the third quarter. 

As Gilmer added onto their score with outside shots, Jordan Bennett did the same as he made a 3 point shot to put the score at 35-29 with Gilmer still ahead. Even though they advanced their lead, Fannin refused to give up. Jalen Ingram found his way to the basket from the block as he made a shot and put the score at 35-31. Twiggs was the one to tie up the game 35-35 with a rebound shot on the block. Bennett managed to do it again as he scored another 3 point shot before time ran out on the clock on Gilmer’s 40-38 victory to earn second place in the tournament.

Fannin’s loss puts their overall record at 3-2. Congratulations to Kaeden Twiggs, Jordan Bennett, and Cohutta Hyde for being selected as All Tournament Players in the Tournament for the Fannin Rebel Basketball Team!
