Founding ALA Unit 248 President Betty Wood honored

President Thelma Coffone, Treasurer Barbara Stodghill, and Betty Wood

Betty Wood has been an inspiration to many women of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 248 since its humble beginnings in 2002.

Woods has led the group of women, many wives and mothers of veterans while others had/have family members who served/serving in all branches of the military. Each monthly meeting, Wood continues to promote the Preamble to the Constitution “associating ourselves together for the following purposes:

  • To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America;
  • To maintain law and order;
  • To foster and perpetuate a one hundred percent Americanism;
  • To preserve the memories and incidents of our associations in the Great Wars;
  • To inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation;
  • To combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses;
  • To make right the master of might;
  • To promote peace and goodwill on earth;
  • To safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy;
  • To consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.

ALA 248, in conjunction with the 100th birthday of the American Legion, wanted to recognize Wood for her dedication to our Veterans and the women who support them.

President Thelma Coffone and Treasurer Barbara Stodghill presented Wood with a beautiful, blue plaque that said:

“Presented to Betty Wood – Founding President – A very honorable and heartfelt for organizing the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 248 and for your leadership and continued dedication to all members. March 2019.”

With not a dry eye in the room, she humbly accepted the gift.

ALA Unit 248 today is what it is due to the hard work, dedication, and love Betty Wood has shared in years past. Members are looking forward to her sound wisdom in making the future even brighter.
