Bears Attack Rebels

This past Tuesday, the Fannin County Lady Rebels traveled to Cherokee Bluff to take on the Lady Bears for the second time this season. Fannin defeated Cherokee Bluff the first time they played each other with a 41-27 victory.

The Lady Rebels started off with an early lead over the Bears to begin the first quarter. Junior, Morgan Holt, led Fannin in scoring for the night with fourteen points. Fannin played a solid defense where they kept Cherokee Bluff from their basket the first four minutes of the game. The Bears managed to get into a groove as they made a three point shot to claim a 5-4 lead over Fannin. The Lady Rebels added a foul shot to their score as the Bears extended their lead to 13-5 to end the first quarter.

The Rebels started to make a comeback as they worked together to score points. Senior, Maleah Stepp, drove the basket and claimed back Fannin’s lead with a score of 15-14. Cherokee Bluff did a great job moving the defense around to create open shots Becca Ledford showed off her speed as she pushed through the defense and contributed eight points to the Rebels score. Fannin went into halftime with a score of 23-20 with the Bears trailing right behind them.

After halftime, the Bears started to adjust their defense by switching to a zone. Fannin had great looks inside to their posts to score more points. Reagan Henderson was aggressive on the block for Fannin where she contributed five points. Cherokee Bluff managed to pull ahead of Fannin 34-33 until Saidee Collins made a shot downlow and put Fannin ahead 35-34. Collins was aggressive downlow where she added four points to Fannin’s score overall. The Bears continued to fight as they drew a foul after making a shot, putting them ahead 37-35. Cherokee Bluff extended their lead 42-37 to go into the fourth quarter.

Abby Ledford was an asset to the game with her ball handling skills that led her to scoring seven points overall. Ledford had great looks inside to Olivia Sisson who pushed through the defense and added four points to Fannin’s score. Although Fannin played with great intensity, Cherokee Bluff was able to end the game with a 60-48 victory. The Lady Rebels loss put their overall record at 6-16 and their region record at 3-7. Catch the Rebels next home game tonight as they take on East Hall at 7pm for senior night!
