Lady Indians Comeback Against Rebels

This past Friday, the Lumpkin County Lady Indians traveled to Fannin County High School to take on the Rebels. Lumpkin was looking for redemption from the first time they played Fannin and were stripped of their undefeated record.

Both teams were neck and neck the whole quarter. They each showed tremendous hustle and never let up. Sophomore, Abby Ledford, led Fannin in scoring for the night with twenty-three points. When the Indians made a foul shot and tied up the game 8-8, Ledford made a three point shot to for Fannin to take an 11-8 lead. Freshman, Reagan York, followed the trend where she added a three point shot of her own. Emily Beavers drew a foul from on the block where she contributed one point to Fannin’s score. Each team continued to add to their score and the Rebels closed out the first quarter with a 17-11 lead over the Indians.

Senior, Maleah Stepp, had outside shots for the night where she added seven points to Fannin’s score. Stepp also had great passes inside to Reagan Henderson who contributed four points to the Rebels score. Olivia Sisson was an asset on the block where she pushed through the defense and added two points to the Rebels score. As Fannin rebounded and put them back up for shots, Lumpkin drove the lane for baskets.The Indians were catching up at the end of the second as they trailed Fannin 28-20.

Lumpkin stepped up their game to start off the third quarter. The Lady Indians managed to catch up to Fannin and take a 36-35 lead with a layup. Saidee Collins was able to tie up the game 36-36 with a made foul shot from the free throw line. Prisila Bautista drew a foul where she made a free throw shot and claimed a 37-36 lead over Lumpkin. The Lady Indians responded to Fannin where they drew a foul and made a shot to tie up the game 37-37 to close out the third quarter.

The Indians started off the fourth quarter with a made three point shot to take a 40-37 lead over Fannin. Henderson rebounded the ball downlow and put it back up for a shot to put Fannin only one point behind Lumpkin. The Indians continued to extend their lead until Morgan Holt had a made shot on the block from a rebound to tie it up 44-44. Holt hustled the whole game and contributed eight points to Fannin’s score for the night. Lumpkin drew a foul towards the end of the quarter where they went two for two on the free throw line and and put the score at 46-44. With only a few seconds left, Holt pulled up for a jump shot to tie the game at 46-46 and put the game into overtime.

To start off the four minute quarter, the Indians once again won the ball at tip off. Right when they got the ball, they wasted no time to drive it to their basket for a layup to claim a 48-46 lead. Ledford drew a foul when driving to the basket and put the score at 48-47. Lumpkin got the ball back and continued to extend their lead as they held Fannin. Ledford shot her last three for the night to put Fannin behind the Indians 55-50 to end the game. Fannin’s loss put their overall score at 6-15 and their region record at 3-6.
