Jeffery Douglas Wheeler

Jeffery Douglas Wheeler, age 61, of Blairsville, GA passed away on December 24, 2018 in the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA. Born in Young Harris, GA, he was the son of the late Richard H. and Esther Mae Rhodes Wheeler. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Jeffery had worked as a Carpenter for David Haight Construction for a number of years. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, James Leonard, Larry and Gary Wheeler.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Diane Wheeler; children, Julia Hilton and Kyle James Wheeler; step-sons, Kenneth Szlosek, Jr. and fiancee Brittney Bailey and Dustin and wife Kala Szlosek; brother, Richard Samuel Wheeler; sister and brother-in-law, Eva and Anthony White; grandchildren, Lacey and Brooklyn Szlosek; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Chan Mitchell and Rev. David Whitener officiating. Interment will follow in the Liberty Hill Methodist Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Anthony White, Vic Payne, David White, David Davis, Steven Ralston and Riley Hedden. Full military honors will be provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 5-8 p.m. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jeffery to help defray final expenses.
