Upcoming Forest Service Controlled Burn in Flat Top Mountain area

We are currently planning to conduct a 1602 acre prescribed burn in the Flat Top Mountain area. This unit will be just south of the Jones Settlement and run to the Jack’s River Fields Camp Ground. It will utilize Forest Service Road 64 and the Pinhoti Trail (FS Road 64C) as control lines. We will have multiple brush trucks, a dozer, and A helicopter on scene to conduct operations. The burn is expected to run from 1000 hours until 1800 hours. Smoke may be seen later into sunset as the unit burns out completely. We are planning on having a public information officer at several locations, such as the Walmart in Blue Ridge to answer questions about the smoke. The Current Forecast shows a wind coming out of the South. This should push the smoke due North toward the Big Frog Wilderness in Tennessee and the Ocoee River Gorge. Below are two location maps of the unit and one that is a close-up.
