Fannin County firefighter killed by falling tree

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. — A Fannin County volunteer firefighter was killed Monday afternoon when a tree fell on his pickup truck on state Route 136 near Clear Creek Road.

Georgia State Patrol identified the man as 47-year-old Stanley Richard Henson who was in Dawson County working another job as a truck driver when the accident happened.

Georgia State Patrol Trooper Chris Jones responded to the accident. He said there was nothing Henson could have done differently to save himself.

He leaves behind a wife, who is also a Fannin County volunteer firefighter, and two teenage children.

Funeral plans have not yet been finalized.
