Lady Vikings Defeat Rebels 60-50

The Friday before last, the Lady Rebels traveled to East Hall to play their last regular season game. The Rebels were hoping to defeat the Lady Vikings to end their season on a good note.

North Hall scored the majority of their points from three point shots while Fannin scored theirs from deep outside shots. Lady Viking, Carly Winters, led her team in scoring with thirty-five points, twenty-four of them being from three point shots. Maddie Johnson led the Lady Rebels in scoring with fourteen points, six of them being from deep shots inside the key. The Lady Rebels were not too far behind the Lady Vikings at the end of the first quarter with a score of 13-22.

The Lady Rebels started to play with some aggression at the start of the second quarter. Everyone on the court had hustle and got after loose balls. Lady Rebel, Morgan Holt, had a great game and contributed thirteen points for her team with her determination. Another guard for the Rebels, Maleah Stepp, added eight points to the score by driving the lane. As the buzzer sounded to end the first half of the game, East Hall had a 33-23 lead over Fannin.

With the Lady Vikings applying heavy defensive pressure by full court pressing and double teaming the Rebels, Fannin had to find a way to get past them. The Lady Rebels looked up the court and and found open teammates. Mackenzie Johnson put three more points on the board for the Lady Rebels with her lightning fast speed. East Hall extended their lead over the Rebels 46-35 at the end the third quarter.

The Rebels started to make a comeback in the fourth quarter. Fannin had good assists inside to the posts who added onto the Rebels score. Hope Franklin contributed eight points for the Rebels downlow while Makenzie McClure added four more from the block. While trying to keep East Hall from scoring, Lady Rebel Mackenzie Johnson received her fifth and final foul, forcing her to leave the game. Despite Fannin’s heart, the Lady Vikings walked away with a 60-50 victory.

Fannin’s loss put their overall record at 9-15, leaving them to play North Hall in the first round of the region tournament.
