Rebels Lose Battle to Spartans

The Fannin Rebels traveled to Greater Atlanta Christian this past Tuesday to take on the Spartans in hopes of getting their fifth win of the season. The Rebels have come a long way since the beginning of their season and were ready to show the Spartans how much they have improved.

Greater Atlanta Christian had steal after steal on defense and ran them back for layups, resulting in most of their points. Spartan, Ben Sheppard, led GAC in scoring with sixteen points. The Rebels scored the majority of their points from downlow off passes to post, Ryan Beavers. Beavers led his team in scoring for the night with eight points. The Spartans ended the first quarter with a 22-8 lead over the Rebels.

Although the Rebels were behind the Spartans, they did not play like they were. This team has improved so much from the start of their season and they play with aggression every second they are on the court despite the score of the game. Joe Satchell contributed two points for the Rebels with his ankle-breaking ball handling skills. Payton Holt also contributed two points for the Rebels with his determination. The Spartans kept their lead over the Rebels at the end of the second quarter with a score of 46-12.

While GAC started to take outside shots, Fannin started to drive the lane. The Rebels drove through the middle, drawing the Spartan defense inside while Fannin passed to wide open teammates on the outside. Fannin Rebel, Chandler Kendall, added five points on the board for his team with his hustle. The Spartans had a 69-17 lead over the Rebels at the end of the third quarter.

Fannin started to foul the Spartans in hopes of stopping them from scoring. Even though Fannin never gave up, they could not make a comeback. GAC walked away with a 80-17 win over Fannin.

The Rebels loss puts their overall record at 4-18 while the Spartans stand at 21-3. Catch the Rebels next game on February 6 as they travel to take on East Hall at 7:30!
