Mr. Herman “Bone” James Godfrey

Mr. Herman James better known as “Bone” Godfrey, age 86 of McCaysville, GA passed away on July 27, 2017 at his home. Born in Copperhill, TN, he was the son of the late William and Robbie Pearl Payne Godfrey. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the McCaysville United Methodist Church. He had retired from Cities Service in the Lead Burning Department.

Survivors include his wife, Lila Sue Godfrey of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Eva Newberry of Turtletown, TN; three daughters and sons-in-laws, Cindy and Joe Plemmons of Blue Ridge, GA, Jamie and Jeff Taylor, and Angie and Rusty Workman all of Epworth, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Sylvia Godfrey of Cleveland, TN; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Patricia and Robert Hagan of Milton, FL and Brenda and Joe Willis of Conyers, GA; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Russell and Rev. Phil Byler officiating. Music will also be provided by Rev. Phil and Judy Byler. Interment will follow in the Crestlawn Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: David Brackett, Tim Brackett, Billy Brackett, Andy Crowder, Jim Hood and Greg Hood. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Men of the McCaysville United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday prior to the service from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com. Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge is in charge of the arrangements.
