BRES Students Began a Service Project for the Community of Blue Ridge

Today, 4th grade students began a service project for the community of Blue Ridge that will carry on for years to come. The students walked to Padgett’s Chapel Cemetery, a cemetery for African Americans, that has had very little attention, and they began the process of cleaning it up while they also had a history lesson. They also spent some time brainstorming and journaling for an ELA essay that they will write in their ELA class. The student’s loved raking debris, picking up sticks, and helping to clean up the cemetery. They learned not only about history, but also about respect and hard work. We look forward to making this historical cemetery in Blue Ridge a place of beauty that these individuals deserve.
