Mr. Philip Dennis Vanzandt: Obituary

Philip Dennis Vanzandt, age 88, of Blue Ridge, GA passed away Monday, February 13, 2017 in the Pruitt Health Care Center in Blue Ridge, GA. Mr. Vanzandt was born in Blue Ridge, GA on August 28, 1928 to the late Dennis Lafayatte Vanzandt and Mary Etta Ralston Vanzandt. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a double Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Chemistry. He was a tool designer at Lockheed and retired after 53 and 1/2 years of service. He was of the Church of Christ faith and was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Korean War.

He is survived by a son, Dennis Vanzandt; a sister and brother-in-law, Gail and J.T. Bailey of Blue Ridge; 4 nieces, Lori Hodge of Birmingham, AL, Hope Reynolds of Blue Ridge, GA, Denise Cox of Blue Ridge, GA, and Connie Seitz of Blue Ridge, GA; two nephews, Mark Bailey and Stacy Vanzandt, both of Blue Ridge; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Min. Butch Jones officiating. Song leader will be Cody Bearden. Military Honors will be provided by North Georgia Honor Guard. Interment will follow in Vanzandt Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until the funeral hour of 2:00. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
