Mr. Joseph Pryor Hamby: Obituary

Mr. Joseph Pryor Hamby, age 83, passed away on Friday, September 30th, 2016 at the Copper Basin Medical Center. He was a long time resident of Ducktown, TN and is now residing in his heavenly home.

Joe was born November 19, 1932 in Violet, NC to his mother, Maggie Hamby and father, Pryor Hamby. He married Imogene Brown on December 20th, 1952 and together they raised three sons, Joseph, Donald and Anthony. Joe was one of our courageous veterans as he served in our military and bravely fought in the Korean War.

The vast majority of Joe’s free time was spent supporting his sons and grandchildren in all of their sporting and educational endeavors as he was always their biggest fan. He enjoyed motorcycle rides, camping with family, and was no stranger to the Nascar circuit.

Preceded in death by parents, Maggie and Pryor Hamby, sisters, Gwendolyn Beavers, Ruby Mashburn, Lucy Trewhitt and brother John Hamby. Joe will be greatly missed by his wife of sixty five years, Imogene Hamby; sons, Joe Hamby, Don Hamby and wife Sally, and Anthony Hamby and wife, Sandra; grandchildren, Sarah Rowland, Bo Hamby, Andrea Ruzic, Julie Hamby, Thomas Pryor Hamby, Jenna Carter, Kevin Hamby, and Brooke Biggs; great-grandchildren, Gianna Hamby, Savannah Jo Rowland, Navy Bay Ruzic, and David Rowland; siblings, Jewel Murphy, Alene Morrow, Thurman Hamby and Dee Hamby along with many other family members and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, October 3rd at 1:00 PM from the Akins of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Richard Morrow officiating. Music was by Janice Reid. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers included, Joe Hamby, Don Hamby, Anthony Hamby, Bo Hamby, Thomas Hamby, and Kevin Hamby. Gentlemen serving as an honorary escort included, Kyle Carter, Corey Biggs, Blaz Ruzic, Dustin Rowland, Dr. Allen Uhlik and Kevin Ray. Entombment followed in the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Cleveland, TN with Rev. Lake Walker officiating. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com. Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill was in charge of the arrangements.
