As of Sept. 1st, Advanced Disposal is no longer accepting glass recycling at its Fannin County locations. This decision follows a drop in profits nationwide from glass recycling. The Wall Street Journal reported in August 2015 that municipal waste companies are ending glass recycling programs because the amount of trash ending up among discarded bottles and jars is making it to expensive to recycle the glass (read article here).
FetchYourNews twice contacted Advanced Disposal for an official comment about whether this decision is specific to Fannin County’s new waste contract or if it is a nationwide company decision. Advanced Disposal did not return the calls.

It seems from the minutes of County Commission meetings that the commissioners have a similar difficulty getting answers from Advanced Disposal.
Did the commissioners vote to approve a contract that excluded class recycling? Does the contract with AD allow AD to unilaterally modify the contract or did the commissioners vote to allow the change?
Before the change, did Advanced Disposal really recycle the glass or was the glass added to the garbage at the transfer station? If AD never recycled the glass, the profitability of glass recycling seems like an excuse.
FetchYourNews would like the answers to these questions as well. However, AD has not responded to inquiries.
