Family Connection Partners with Body by Vi for Youth Weight Loss

Family Connection and Body by Vi announced their partnership in an adolescent weight loss program during Body by Vi’s Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony.  For every ten pounds that a Body by Vi Project 10 member loses, Body by Vi will donate 90 weight-loss meals to Family Connection.  This means someone losing 30 lbs. through Body by Vi’s program would end up contributing 270 meals to Family Connection.

Family Connection will distribute the weight-loss meals to adolescents in their programs who want to greatly reduce their weight.  Sherry Morris, Director of Fannin County Family Connection, is very thankful for the opportunity to provide weight loss programs for disadvantaged youth.  Obesity carries many negative financial consequences for adolescents said Ms. Morris.  Being overweight can end up costing a lot of money for health care.  Also, being overweight leads to self-esteem issues which can hinder a young person from pursuing jobs. Helping youth lose weight is part of Fannin Family Connection’s focus on providing nutritional food for families that need its services.  Ms. Morris adds that weight-loss programs are usually too expensive for families living on a very limited budget to afford.  This program meets a real service need for Fannin youth.

Family Connection will be running the program and will provide the weight-loss meals free-of-charge.  Youth will be partnered with a mentor from Bodies by Vi to encourage them during their weight loss program.  Currently, one adolescent has finished the program and another adolescent is still in the program.  Fannin youth who want to be considered for the program need to contact Sherry Morris at Family Connection at 706-632-6063.
