Mrs. Mae Ruth Hensley: Obituary

Mrs. Mae Ruth Hensley, age 90 and surrounded by family, walked through the gates of heaven on Sunday, April 3rd. Born to Ora Lee Buttram and Nancy Bailey Buttram, Mae Ruth lived her entire life in the Copper Basin area. She was the oldest of four children and the only girl.

Mae Ruth married Victor C. Hensley following his return from military service. They had one son, Danny Joe, who died at age three. They were married for 42 years prior to Vic’s death in 1988.

The Hensleys were managers of the Cowanis Club of the Tennessee Copper Company during most of their working years. Both were fantastic cooks/caterers and enjoyed gardening and canning, as well. Mae Ruth will be remembered for her variety of delicious cookies which she shared with family and friends and for the skills she passed on to so many young people who worked alongside them at the club.

Mrs. Hensley was a member of the First Baptist Church of McCaysville/Copperhill and an active participant in the Faith Sunday School Class and WMU until her failing health forced her to stay home.

Mae Ruth is survived by her brother, Joe Lynn Buttram; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Bessie Buttram; 8 nieces and nephews, 10 great-nieces and nephews, and 2 great-great nieces and one great-great nephew, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vic; her son, Danny Joe; brother, Frank, and wife, Pauline Buttram; and brother, Lee Ross Buttram.

The family will receive friends at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home of McCaysville, Georgia from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Saturday, April 9th. A Funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home, McCaysville, Georgia at 2:00pm on April 10th. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery.

Arrangements entrusted to the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home of McCaysville, GA. You may send condolences to the family and sign the guest register at www.cochranfuneralhomes.com.
