There is a saying that teachers touch the future. Monday evening exemplified that phrase!
December 7, 2015 was an evening of celebration for the Academic Team of Fannin County High School. The Academic Team consists of high school students who compete against other schools throughout this region of Georgia. Students are quizzed over areas of mathematics, science, language arts, and social studies, in addition there is a current events round. These students practiced both afternoons and mornings throughout the school year putting in many hours to prepare for the competitions. These dedicated young people will be the leaders of tomorrow!
The end of year banquet was held at Southern Charm, in downtown Blue Ridge. If you have not experienced the cuisine at this southern style restaurant, you should, for you will be in for a treat! Thank you to the Academic Booster Club for purchasing the meals for the team!
The evening began with time for students, their family, and attending faculty, administrators, and guests to socialize and enjoy the ambiance and company.
After dining, awards were presented. First time members were given a ‘Lamp of Knowledge’ pin and returning members were given a ‘Bar of Service’ for another year of participation. All team members also received certificates for lettering or participation.

Each student received a trophy as recognition for placing first and third in our region, which consists of 8 counties. This year the Varsity team, consisting of 11th and 12th graders, placed first in our region and the Junior Varsity team, consisting of 9th and 10th graders, placed third in our region! Both teams brought home trophies from the Finals tournament held in Flowery Branch.
Through the generosity of several local businesses, all students additionally received door prizes. We want to especially thank the following:
Fannin County Academic Booster Club for supporting the team throughout the season and for student meals, Fannin County School System District, Staff, and Administration of FCHS for support during the season, Kim Kribbs and Sabrina Howard for being the team Advisors/Coaches this season, and Team Members for their dedication to academics and school.
For our Student Door Prizes: Papa’s Pizza, Circle J Steakhouse, Blue Jeans Pizza, Zaxby’s, Monte Alban, Dunkin Donuts, Cohutta Country Store, The Diamond Center, Ingles, Blue Ridge BBQ, Mesquite Grill, Angelina’s, Wendy’s, Southern Charm, Pete’s Place, Fannin Bowling Lanes, Royal Waffle King, Wal-Mart, and The Village Restaurant.
