Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Addie Elizabeth “Betty” Gurr, age 85, of Blairsville, who passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015 at her home.Betty was born in Jacksonville, Florida on September 14, 1929, a daughter of the late Harvey Sparkman Hucks and the late Mary Elizabeth Chapman Hucks. Betty was a registered nurse and had worked at Murphy Medical Center in Murphy, and served as a volunteer for Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where she had been very active as a Sunday School teacher and director of Women’s Missionary Union for many years. Betty had also been a member of The Antioch Singers. Many times Betty had been the director of Vacation Bible School, a teacher for Mission Friends, and had served as teacher for Gleaners Sunday School Class. Betty had been active in Union County Lion’s Club, – she was the first female President of the Lion’s Club in Blairsville, and had served as the secretary for 10 years, and wrote the publicity article for the newspaper for the Lions Club.

Surviving family members include Betty’s husband, Arthur, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila Ann and Carlos Phillips, of Albany, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Harvey Morris and Sarah Gurr, of Tifton, Georgia; and son and daughter-in-law, David Michael and Donna Gurr, of Albany; brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Marilyn Hucks, of Jacksonville, Florida; and brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Elane Hucks, of Mt. Pelier, Virginia; brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Jenny Hucks, of Jacksonville, Florida; sisters-in-law, Joy Hucks, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Vickie Rosaman, of Indianapolis, Indiana; five grandchildren: Jennifer Leigh Talley, Aimee Michelle Jenkins, Jonathan Michael Gurr, David Anthony Gurr, and Christopher Michael Gurr; 14 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services have been scheduled for Friday, July 3, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., to be held at Antioch Baptist Church, with Rev. George Cline officiating. The body will be instate at the church starting at 10:30 on the morning of the funeral. Members of Union County Lions Club are requested to serve as honorary escort to the family. Burial will be in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home will be on Thursday evening, July 2, 2015, between the hours of 6 until 8 p.m.
