Daily Prayer: 06/11

Matthew 5:34-37. “But I tell you, Do not swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool…And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. Simply let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’ and your ‘No’ be ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.”O God of Truth, you have taught us to be the kind of people whose word can be trusted and believed. What we have said we would do you expect us to carry it out. We are not to have to take oaths in our daily lives to show that we are telling the truth except when compelled by civil law.

We hear so much frivolous foul mouth swearing in common everyday life and in the entertainment media. Everything that is holy is profaned by those whose vocabulary is limited to the dictionary of hell.

The Kingdom citizen must be of transparent honesty so that swearing to make it true or to emphasize a point is not needed. Help us to live above falsehood and impure speech in the name of Christ, our Lord.

Amen.
