Daily Prayer: 06/06

Matthew 5:20. “For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.” Lord Christ, we read your words spoken in your Sermon on the Mount and are blessed by the high regard in which you held the law and the commandments. You did not come to abolish but to fulfill the law and will accomplish it all until that great day.

You gave us a warning that if we break the commandments and teach others to do so, our place in the kingdom will be the least. But you want us to have a large place in the kingdom by practicing your commandments ourselves and teaching others to do the same.

If we do not have the kind of righteousness that comes from a heart of transforming faith we will not even enter the kingdom. Just blind outward obedience to the law is deadly.

We want to please you by what we are and what we do this day.
