Murphy, NC— Cherokee County Sheriff Derrick Palmer announced the May 26th, 2015 arrest of 35 year old Kevin Dwayne Cornwell, a homeless man for multiple charges stemming from numerous breaking entering reports.

Shortly after 11 PM on May 26, 2015 the Cherokee County Communications Center received a call that a local business was being broken into. Upon arriving the Patrol Deputies ascertained that Cornwell had called in the report which was a “mistake”. While on scene a wants and warrant check revealed that Cornwell had outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Cornwell was arrested on indictments that the May 11th, 2015 session of the Cherokee County Grand Jury issued alleging that he had committed the following crimes: Break or Enter any Building-Intent to Commit a Felony/Larceny 3 counts, Larceny of Property or Goods with a value greater than $1000.00 (F) 1 count, Possess Stolen Goods-Chattel/Property/Money-with Larceny (F), 1 count, Larceny After Breaking or Entering 2 counts. Cornwell is currently in the Cherokee County Detention Center on a $5,000.00 secure bond and is scheduled to appear August 10, 2015 in Cherokee County Superior Court.

Cherokee County Man Arrested on Fraud Charges

Murphy, NC— Cherokee County Sheriff Derrick Palmer announced the May 23rd, 2015 arrest of 41 year old Brenton Todd Rhoden, a homeless man for fraud charges.

On or about February 16th, 2015 complaint was made with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office alleging that someone had removed a check from the victim’s car and had cashed several of the checks. During the investigation the investigator was able to determine that Rhoden had removed the check book and had cashed the checks. Further the investigator was able to determine that Rhoden had used some of the checks to pay for personal debts to other individuals.

Rhoden was taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center where he was booked, processed on the following charges: Misdemeanor Larceny, Financial Card Theft, Uttering Forged Instrument, Forgery of Instrument and four counts of Obtaining Property by False Pretense. Rhoden was released on $5,000.00 unsecure bond. Rhoden is expected to be in Cherokee County District Court on June 17th, 2015 at 9 AM.
