Future Educators Association Students Attend Spring Leadership Conference

Students in the Future Educators Association recently attended the Spring Leadership Conference at St. Simons Island. This is an annual event where students hear dynamic speakers who give valuable advice about the teaching profession. This year the Keynote Speakers were the 2013 National Teacher of the Year, Sean McCombs and the 2013 Georgia Teacher of the Year, Jamellah Coes. In addition, students also attend workshops led by educators all across Georgia and they compete in various events that call upon the skills they learn from the Teaching as a Profession pathway courses at FCHS. This year the Knowledge Bowl Team took 2nd place among many teams from schools across Georgia. The team consisted of the following students: Emilee Towe, Emily Key and Will Panter. During this competition, students are required to answer questions about the field of education in general and laws that regulate public schools. Emily Key also won 2nd Place for Impromptu Speaking. For this event, contestants are required to give a speech on a current topic that has a big impact on public education. (FEA is the student organization that supports the CTAE Teaching as a Profession pathway.)
