Blue Ridge City Council Addresses Water Loss Issue

BLUE RIDGE, Ga – Among the approval of other things at the Blue Ridge City Council workshop, the board agreed to bring a company in to try and solve an on going water loss problem.

500,000+ gallons of city treated water have been loss due to leaks in the city water system. One of the major leaks has been narrowed down to the Mountain Top subdivision area, but despite the cities best efforts, pin pointing exactly where the leak is coming from to fix it has been a tiresome, costly act.

With the city losing an estimated $3500 of saleable water a day, the council agreed to bring in Match Point, a company that specializes in locating water loss origination and repairing the problem points.

The hiring of Match Point will cost the city $1500 a day, but the council members believe that spending the money not to fix the water loss problem will save the city money in the long run by being able to actually profit off of the saleable water.

After hearing Fannin County High School Senior Dusty Dyer speak, the board also agreed to allow the Fannin County High School Junior Board to host a 5k race to raise money for scholarships for graduating seniors.

The race will be held at 9:00am on the morning of March 21st, 2015. The course the race will follow will be the same as that used by Paws in the Park, which will be held on the same day, in downtown Blue Ridge. Registration information will be provided in the days to come.
