Spencer Lewis Evans : Obituary

Mr. Spencer Lewis Evans, age 61 Lafayette, GA passed away July 7, 2014. Spencer’s mission in life was to go out into the world and tell everyone who would listen about the Love and Saving Grace of Jesus Christ. After a long struggle with Cancer, God called him home. Spencer loved mission work. He would drop everything to go on a mission trip. He was blessed to go to Africa, Australia, Costa Rica and Panama with his Church, The Crossing in Chattanooga, and with the Joy FM radio station in Chattanooga, TN. God called Spencer to start Hope Ministries for the homeless in Chattanooga. At that time, there was no formal effort to minister to the homeless in downtown Chattanooga. Over some ten years Spencer touched the life of hundreds of homeless people for Christ.

Spencer graduated from East Fannin High. He had worked as an LPN for a number of years and after that he worked in commercial construction for several years. For the past ten years, Spencer was honored to work for the The Crossing Church as their Maintenance Person and take care of one of God’s great places of Worship. As a member of the church, he was an active member of the choir and other ministries. When he had spare time, he loved to sing with friends and record worship music to share with the homeless during worship time with them. He also loved to run, as this was his time alone with God.

Survivors include his two children, Spencer Evans of Atlanta, GA and Chanda Livesay of Ball Ground, GA; sister, Lisa Evans of Woodstock, GA; two brothers, Stephen Wehunt of Fayetteville, GA and Gary Abercrombie of Mineral Bluff, GA.

Memorial services will be conducted on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the Memorial Service hour.

In lieu of flowers, Spencer has requested that donations be made to the The Crossings Church in Chattanooga, TN for the Homeless Ministries or to the Joy FM, J103 Radio Station in Chattanooga for the stations World Missions Work. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com. Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge, GA is in charge of the arrangements.
