An opinion by Ed Huber:
So, let me see if I got this right. “If I like my Health Insurance, I can keep my Health Insurance and my cost will go down; Period”! “If I like my Doctor, I can keep my Doctor; Period”! If I lose my insurance or, my Doctor or, my cost goes up, I’m a liar and it really didn’t happen. If fairytales ever come true Piebald Obama and Dirty Harry will have noses four feet long. So what could possibly go wrong?
I attended a meeting in Ducktown years ago where the county was going to explain how they assessed property taxes. Someone asked “What if I refuse to let you on my property?” The assessor responded; “We’ll just add a few hundred square feet to your total and move on!” I then asked “What will you do if you don’t like the way I vote?” The meeting went silent and was adjourned. Could the same question be asked about Obamacare? Isn’t congress and all Obama supporters exempt? Is the IRS and the EPA political? Is there a solution to our dilemma?
As I thought about an answer my mind wondered back to my childhood and how healthcare worked back then. When I got sick Mom would start with Agarol for a good cleaning out. Just the thought of taking a spoon-full of that stuff would cure most sickness. If that didn’t work she would call “ole” Doc Sawbones. Back then Doctors still came to the house. The first thing “Doc” would do is get my temperature and he gave me a choice. He’d say; “Under the tongue or drop your pants”. I often wondered if anyone opted for under the tongue. (“Ugh”)
As time progressed health insurance was introduced. First as a benefit to workers and then the public. The idea was “FREE” healthcare. So, now instead of just paying the Doctor (Co-pay) we also pay the insurance company a monthly premium and we blame those rotten companies for running up our healthcare costs. Surely there’s a way to stick it to the insurance company. I know, we can call our congressman for help. This ultimately led to Obamacare and now we pay the Doctor, the Insurance Company, and the Government and Obama tells us our healthcare costs are going down and brain dead voters believe him. Well, I wonder no more. I know now there are some who take the thermometer under the tongue!
The answer to this dilemma is to get the insurance companies and the government out of the healthcare business. Let the free marketplace regulate the cost of healthcare and the cost will come down in a hurry.
In 1959 Nikita Khrushchev said; “Your children’s children will live under Communism. You Americans are so gullible. No, you won’t accept Communism outright; but we’ll keep feeding you small doses of Socialism until you finally wake up and find that you already have Communism. We won’t have to fight you; WE’LL SO WEAKEN YOUR ECONOMY, until you fall like overripe fruit into our hands.”
On long car trips my kids used to ask; “Are we there yet.”
