Rebels Route in Third Win

The Fannin High School Rebels baseball team has started the 2014 baseball season off with three wins in four games, with the lone loss coming on the road to the Panthers of Union County. The Rebels have posted wins over Towns County, Gilmer, and most recently a monstrous mangling of Murray, 14-1.After opening with an 11-0 shutout victory over Towns County to open the season, the Rebels traveled top Gilmer High School to face the Union Panthers and the hosting Bobcats in a round robin three-way.

The Rebels fell behind early, as the Panthers put up two runs in the bottoms of the third and fourth innings to take a 4-0 lead. The Rebels scored Fannin’s only run in the top of fourth when Trevor Stone’s sac ground out scored Jordan Gray from third. Fannin fell 7-1.

The Rebels next faced the rival Bobcats, winning 10-5. The game was back and forth as the Rebels took an early 2-0 lead, with runs scored in the second and third innings. Gilmer responded by scoring a run in the bottom of the third and three in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-2 lead going into the fifth inning.

The Rebels scored three runs in the top of the fifth securing a lead that was not relinquished, despite the Bobcats tying the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the same inning.

Five runs in the top of the seventh and last inning, secured the 10-5 win for Fannin. Peyton Satterfield’s three RBI lead the team, while Noah O’Neal led the team in hits with four.

The Rebels third win of the year came with a scalping of the Murray Indians, despite the Rebels facing an early deficit. Murray scored in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead that lasted until the top of the fourth, when Fannin tied the game.

A 14 run explosion in the top of the fifth sealed the deal for the Rebels as the mercy rule was instituted after the sixth inning. Satterfield and Gray each had four RBI to lead the team. Gray’s four hits was the team high as well.

The Rebels will face North Hall at home on Monday March 10th at 5:30pm.
