The Fannin County High School Rebels wrestling team’s season came to an end at the 3AAA West Sectional Tournament. The Sectionals Tournaments decide participation and seeding in the State Traditional Tournament, where wrestlers compete for individual state championships. Three Rebels made the Sectionals Tournament, Kayleb Chancey, Matthew Seabolt, and Mason McClure; however, none moved on to the State Tournament.Chancey, competing at the 106lbs weight class, defeated his first opponent, Levi Kinsey, at the Sectionals Tournament, putting him in the semifinals. A Semifinals loss, followed by consolation semifinals loss, ended his run and season.
Seabolt, competing at 126, fell in the first round to Ringgolds’ Sam Shepard. A win in the first round of “wrestle backs” put him in the consolation quarters; however a loss in the quarters proved to be the end.
McClure, competing at 138, also suffered a loss in the first round, but rebounded with a win in the first round of “wrestle backs.” McClure finished fifth, one spot out of a necessary top four finish to make the State Traditional Tournament. He is the first alternate, should an injury occur at 138.
