Jules Nicholson Wins WFES Spelling Bee

Proud parents and faculty were present at the West Fannin Elementary school spelling bee on Tuesday, January 14, 2014.The students that were the winners of their classes were a part of the school wide spelling bee. Fourth and fifth grade students lined up before a panel of judges made up of kindergarten teachers.

Six student representatives rallied for the title of school winner. Students included Ricardo Alellnes Alvarado, Jordan Ensley, Jules Nicholson, Keith Bailey, Elizabeth Holsenback and Alyssa Anderson. These participants endured a total of 27 fierce rounds that contained increasingly difficult words. One by one, students slipped up on tricky words. Some of the words that held their fate included moviegoer, gorgon and joust.

In the final round it was down to Ensley and Nicholson. Nicholson had to spell two words correctly to win the competition. She was given the word “stubble”.

“Stubble. S-T-U-B-B-L-E. Stubble”

she said. Her mother, Amanda, was in the room and her face lit up with excitement. Her daughter had just won the school wide spelling bee and will compete in the county wide spelling bee against the winners of Blue Ridge Elementary School, East Fannin Elementary School and Fannin County Middle School.

Jules and her proud mother, Amanda, are pictured as she proudly displays her awards and her medal she won during the spelling bee.

FYN would like to congratulate all of the contestants of the spelling bee, as well as their parents on their child’s tremendous accomplishment. We will see Jules Nicholson and her mother again at the county wide spelling bee on January 28th at the Board of Education office.
