Wayne Franklin Huffman of Blue Ridge passed away January 15, 2014.Wayne Huffman was the son of the late Harold Wayne and Willie Brinkley Huffman. He was born and spent his life within the city limits of Blue Ridge and was a true native son. He graduated from Blue Ridge High School as the youngest member of his class and spent his early years delivering groceries and working at the Rexall Pharmacy. After High School, he served in the U.S Army in Korea, returning home to attend Truett-McConnell College. In 1961 he went to work at the Copper Company in Copperhill, Tennessee, for which he worked for 35 years. In 1963, he met and married his wife of 51 years, Charlotte “Ann” Beavers. They worked, raised their children, and spent their lives in Blue Ridge. In retirement, Wayne entered public service and served as a city councilman for 4 full terms. He often received the highest number of votes and also served as Mayor Pro-tem. He served many years overseeing the Water department and also served as office manager. He was a faithful visitor to the Blue Ridge Pharmacy every day and loved the Braves and football, especially the falcons and the ‘dawgs’. He was a faithful husband, father, and friend. He was a Christian and a man who cared about his community. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters-Pat Huffman Galloway and Hildred Huffman Kirkpatrick.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ann, children; Charlotte Huffman Hyatt of Mineral Bluff, Brian Huffman of Blue Ridge, Gary Huffman of Mineral Bluff, Bert Huffman of Atlanta, and Teresa Jones of Princeton, Kentucky, one sister, Sue Huffman Williams of Kennesaw, brothers; James Huffman of Morganton, and Scott Huffman of Kennesaw, 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends survive.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, from 5 until 9 p.m. at the Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge.

The funeral service will take place at 2 pm, Saturday, January 18, 2014 from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel. Officiating will be Reverend David Whitener and Reverend Adam Love. Music by Brian Huffman and Alisa Stanley. The following gentleman have been asked to serve as pallbearers. Weston Huffman, Andrew Hyatt, Jim Robinson, John Watkins, Johnny Scearce, and Rob Stewart. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be all present and former of the last 16 years Mayor and City Council of Blue Ridge, all city employees, Bill Prather, Bill Walden Jr., John Cochran, Dale Dyer, and Dr. Jack Roof, and Ted Weaver and the morning gang. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Heart association or the charity of your choice. Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge is in charge of arrangements.
