Evelyn Jones : Obituary

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn Kay Jones, age 66, native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, who passed away surrounded by her family, on Saturday, January 4, 2014 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.Evelyn was born in Blairsville on August 9, 1947, and was a member of Jones Creek Church of God. For over 40 years, Evelyn had been a faithful and dedicated employee of Union General Hospital here in Blairsville. Her husband, Pastor Terrell Jones, passed away last year in June; Evelyn had always been at his side, dedicating her life to the church and her husband’s ministry. Evelyn played the piano and could play almost any instrument there is. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Among her favorite things to do was to vacation with her family in the mountains, or to the Charleston, South Carolina area.

Evelyn will be greatly missed by all who knew her – her memory will be especially treasured by her loving family members: daughter Lisa and her husband Donald Weaver, of Blairsville; daughter, Jennifer Gentry, of Blairsville; and daughter, Kimberly Jones, of Blairsville; sister, Opal Barnes, of Blairsville; brothers, Roger and Wayne Kelley, both of Blairsville; five grandchildren: Jaron Weaver and his wife, Aprile; Megan Weaver, Samantha Gentry, Jenna Gentry, and Justin Cantrell; nieces and nephews and many friends also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, January 6, 2014, at 1:00 p.m., at the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville. The following gentlemen have been selected by the family to serve as pallbearers: Donald Weaver, Rusty Fortenberry, Tracy Dockery, Ranny Jones, Bret Barnes, and Cheston Barnes. Burial will be in Liberty Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, with the family especially meeting with friends between the hours of 5 until 7 p.m.
