Students Explore GSP Helicopter

The students at Blue Ridge Elementary School received a special treat one morning when Ryan Holloway with the Georgia State Patrol flew his helicopter in and landed it for the children to learn about and explore.While the helicopter was, without a doubt, the hit of the presentation, the older students were found to ask more questions about how the helicopter worked. As Holloway explained the answer to each question, students learned that he flies the chopper and it is used, usually, to look for lost people when they go missing by using the inferred camera that’s on board. Other interesting facts included that the device could fly up to 1000 feet in the air and up to 80 miles per hour. After the question and answer session with each grade level, all of the students were able to climb in, sit down and get out of the helicopter. Once everyone had the opportunity to do so, they all gathered outside to watch the helicopter lift off. After reaching its idea height, Holloway circled around the school and flew over the applauding and cheering students. It was the experience of a lifetime!
