The Fannin County High School FFA Chapter recently participated in the North Region FFA community service project to help the North Metro Atlanta Chapter of Blue Star Mothers create care packages for deployed soldiers. Packages consisted of items such as soaps, shampoos, socks, magazines, snack foods, and other items that may be hard to come by during a deployment overseas, along with money to help ship the packages. The Fannin County High School FFA Chapter’s efforts, combined with the efforts of several other North Region FFA Chapters, helped collect an impressive 6’x12’ trailer full of boxes for the soldiers serving our country. The items will be divided into nearly 200 care packages and shipped to soldiers in the upcoming weeks. All of the donations collected by the FFA chapter were brought to the North Region Rally in Covington, Georgia on September 5-7.
The North Region Rally is an event that gets FFA members excited and ready for the opportunities awaiting them in the upcoming year. What better way to start off the year right than by touching the lives of men and women serving our country. Comfort items from home can be hard to come by during a deployment. Fannin High FFA members and their Agriculture teacher appreciate the sacrifices being made on their behalf by our service men and women and wanted to show their support by collecting items which may help brighten a soldier’s day.
The National FFA Organization, formerly known as the Future Farmers of America, changed its name in 1988 to reflect the growth and diversity of agriculture. FFA is a national organization of over 550,000 members preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture. FFA is an integral part of the agricultural education program in public schools. The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
