DSC Grad Named Fannin Regional Hospital’s Nurse of the Year

DALTON–(August 20)– Tina Sharpton, of Ellijay, was named Fannin Regional Hospital’s Nurse of the Year for 2013. She was one of eight nominated candidates and was presented the award by Chief Nursing Officer Julia Barnett.

Dalton State Alumna Tina Sharpton named Fannin Regional Hospital’s Nurse of the Year for 2013.

Currently enrolled in an online course through Dalton State College, Sharpton hopes to enter the College’s bachelor’s program in nursing in the fall of 2014. She received her Associate of Science in Nursing in 2012 from Dalton State, afterwards passing examinations to become a Registered Nurse.

Sharpton says that Dalton State’s nursing program prepared her well for the challenges of working in a hospital. While her home department is the outpatient clinic of Fannin Regional, she also fills in when needed in the emergency room, medical surgery, or intensive care. “Having this degree has made a huge difference in my life,” she says. “It was difficult, but it was worth it.”
