Blue Ridge Broken Water Line, No water

Many citizens in Blue Ridge are waking up to no water.

Yesterday the City of Blue Ridge realized something was very wrong with the water pressure. This could only be a leak. When they checked the tank water level they found they were losing 20,000 gallons of water an hour. This wasn’t just a leak it was a major water line break.
The city of Blue Ridge uses between 600 to 700 thousand gallons of water a day. The city has a 500 thousand gallon water tank.
The water department spent hours looking for the leak with no success. Word was sent out to citizens asking them to help look for the broken water line. Telling citizens that this was not a leaky faucet but to look for gushing water that may have a chlorine smell.
FYN spoke with Mayor Donna Whitener at midnight. Whitener told us that they had a report of a lot of water with a chlorine smell in the United Community Bank area over the guard rail. Whitener said the area was grown up and would be hard to get to but they thought this could be the leak.
Whitener called FYN at 1 am to say they found the broken water line. A major 10 inch line was broken. Whitener told us they would be working through the night to repair the line.
Whitener went on to say that once the line was repaired it would take a full 24 hours to replenish the cities 500 gallon tank and return water levels too normally. Whitener said that Blue Ridge would have a limited amount of water Monday.
All Fannin County schools are closed Monday and the court house will have a limited staff. So don’t come to Blue Ridge Monday if you need water.
FYN, Fannin County’s only 24 hour news.
