Florence Bell Mathis : Obituary

Mrs. Florence Mae Bell Mathis, age 100, passed away on Sunday morning on August 4, 2013.Born in the Community of Pierceville, she was the daughter of the late Abraham Lincoln and Margaret Avaline Keller Bell. She was a long time member of the Macedonia Baptist Church. Mrs. Mathis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother. She also was an avid gardener. Also preceding her in death is her husband, John James Mathis; brother, Lawrence Bell; and one sister, Lillie B. Watson.

Survivors include her son, Carson Mathis and wife, Mary; two daughters, Lucille O’Neal and husband Ebbie, and Lois Cantrell and husband Edgar all of McCaysville; six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Tuesday August 6, at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ed O’Neal and Rev. Claude Mathis officiating. Interment will follow in the Patterson Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Ranier Mathis, Jonas Alfredsson, Ricky O’Neal, Richard Davis, Jamie Cantrell and Russell Cantrell.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday after 2:00 p.m. but especially from 5-9 p.m.
