Mr. Charlie Payne, age 87, of Turtletown, TN passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013.Charlie was born in Cherokee County, NC to the late Isum and Estie Taylor Payne. He was a member of the Turtletown Baptist Church. He was a member of the Montgomery Lodge # 426 F&AM in Ranger, NC and was retired from the Tennessee Copper Company where he worked as a crane operator. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Murphy Payne.
He is survived by son, Larry “Bear” Payne and wife, Heather of Dalton, GA; Siblings, Earl Payne of Turtletown, TN, Willis Payne of Jasper, GA, Virgil Payne of Atlanta, GA and Evelyn Payne of Talking Rock, GA; grandchildren, Bethanie Payne and Neeka Payne.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 13th at 2:00 p.m. from the Turtletown Baptist Church with Rev. Mitch Isbill and Rev. Ray Harper officiating. Music will be by Janice Reid. Pallbearers will be Roger Thomasson, Bill Thomasson, Rick Boring, Steve Boring, Phillip Ledford and Daniel Germany.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites conducted by the Montgomery Lodge # 426 F&AM. Mr. Payne will lie in state at the church Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour of 2:00 p.m.
