Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces services for Mr. David Davenport, age 67, of Hayesville, North Carolina, who passed away early Friday morning, June 14, 2013, in Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.

Mr. Davenport was a native of Hayesville, and was born on December 20, 1945, a son of the late Willard Davenport and Edith Moss Davenport. Mr. Davenport was an outdoors type person, enjoying working in his yard, and vegetable gardening. He was known to pull a few practical jokes, and had a mischievous streak. A big Atlanta Braves baseball fan, you would quickly be told “don’t talk while the game is on.” David had a mellow side too, enjoying flowers and trout fishing. Besides his parents, he had been preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Davenport, and a sister, Beatrice Davenport.

David was dearly loved and will be missed very much by his family: Geraldine, his wife of 42 years; brother & sister-in-law, Michael and Becky Davenport; brother & sister-in-law, Terry and Connie Davenport; brother, J.B. Davenport; brother & sister-in-law, Anthony and Tarena Davenport; and sister & brother-in-law, Frances and Lawton Youngblood; numerous nieces and nephews also survive, along with many friends.

Funeral services for David have been scheduled for Sunday, June 16, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Joey Youngblood, Robert Bradshaw, Shannon Moss, Greg Rutledge, Bruce Hamilton, Randy Smith, Tommy Hogsed, and Roger Youngblood. These gentlemen have been selected by the family to serve as their honorary escort: Cecil Maney, Kenneth Hogsed, Dwight Moss, Ronnie Hogsed, and Enoch Ledford. Burial will be in Shooting Creek Memorial Gardens. Visitation at Cochran Funeral Home in Hiawassee will be on Saturday, June 15, 2013, with the family especially meeting with friends between the hours of 6 until 9 p.m.
