Make a Truly Wise Investment

I love the show Shark Tank on ABC. It’s exciting to see new inventions and people who have risked so much to live out there dreams finally find success, or realize that their business wasn’t that good to begin with based on the response of the “Sharks,” potential investors who use their own money to help business owners or inventors in a time of need. What is most interesting is to see the difference in the Sharks. While the the Shark known as Mr. Wonderful cares only about money and the bottom line, Mark Cuban tends to invest in people, even if the product isn’t perfect. He believes that investing in the right people will bring a more significant long term gain.

Each of us has been given a certain amount of time, talent, and energy. Your life is like a bank account, and each day you choose what to invest yourself, your time, your energy, and your passion in. The question is, what are you investing yourself in? Will it bring a significant long term impact? As Christians who understand the Great Commandment and Great Commission, we should be committed to investing ourselves in the Worship and love of God and in the love of other people in this life.

Paul makes this point clearly to Titus in Titus 2. In this passage he commands Titus to teach the older men and women in his church to invest their lives, wisdom, and experience into the lives of the next generation. Each of us needs to examine our lives. What kind of impact are we making? If we spend all of ourselves on the “bottom line” of success, pleasure, fun, work, for ourselves…what return will we get on our investment after we are gone. But if we invest in people…what a difference we can truly make.

I want to challenge you to invest your life in the lives of people around you. Build intentional relationships for the good of others.
