Sunday June 2, Fannin County had some flooding problems due to the high volume of rain falling early in the morning. 2 private bridges were reported washed away and several culverts became backed up causing water to stand on the roadway on Curtis Switch Rd and Pineview Rd. Several trees were also reported down across roads. Fannin County Road Department quickly went to work clearing the areas.
At approximately 3:00PM Sunday, a 3 year old boy was reported missing from a residence on Cardinal Lane. Fannin EMA and Sheriff’s Deputies responded immediately, and minutes after arrival, the child was found safe, asleep in a closet in his house by a family member.

A call was received at about 4:30 PM from a woman in Atlanta stating that her husband was a boy scout leader and he and 3 other adults had taken a troup of boys camping in the Jack’s River area on Thursday and were supposed to return Sunday morning but had not been heard from. We sent a US Forest Service Unit and a SAR (Search & Rescue) volunteer from Fannin Fire Department to the parking area at Dally Gap and found their vehicles still there. While our units were on scene, the group emerged from the trail uninjured, but very wet and dirty. They had to take an alternate route out due to the high water in the river from rain.
