The Fannin Rebels’ baseball team held their end-of-the-year banquet on Monday night, giving all of the players, parents, and coaches a chance to reflect on the season that was.The opening remarks of the banquet came from JV head coach Bubba Gibbs, who gave the crowd and excellent explanation about how both the JV and varsity’s struggles would ultimately help them grow closer by reminiscing on his playing time at Fannin High School and how “adversity builds character”.
Once Mr. Gibbs finished his time at the podium, it was time for the awards to be given out. Following the recognition of the JV and varsity teams as well as those who lettered for the team, Rebels head coach David Dyer then announced the winners of the school’s two awards: the Offensive Player of the Year Award and the Scholar Athlete Award. Jordan Gray was the recipient of the Offensive Player of the Year Award thanks to his .377 batting average, and Todd Patterson was awarded the Scholar Athlete award.
The night was in a sense dedicated to Patterson, as the Fannin first baseman was the only senior for the Rebels this year. Along with a framed picture featuring a replica of the Rebels jersey came praise from Fannin High School athletic director Dr. Scott Ramsey, who praised Patterson’s dedication to the team and jokingly added that with both his athletic and intellectual abilities “you might make it!”
Mr. Patterson has a bright future indeed, as he is set to attend the University of North Georgia in the fall as a member of the school’s Honors program.
