“Star Trek: Into Darkness” Lights Up the Film

The second installment of the latest in the Star Trek adaptations is just as good if not better than the first. “Into Darkness” is a little darker, pun intended, than the “first” film. Now listen Trekkies, I don’t want to hear about which number film it is, so save it. For the purpose of MY COLUMN, “Into Darkness” is the second film. That being said, I’ll start off by saying SPOILER ALERT: the worst kept secret since Ricardo Montalban guests on Fantasy Island often found out that risky fantasies invited the wrath of the Gods, is true. So apparently nerdgasms, seeing as how the Trekkies behind me all exploded in raucous applause, when it was confirmed.

I say apparently because I am relatively new to the Stark Trek Universe, the first new one, was the first Star Trek anything I’ve seen since my aunt took me see “The Voyage Home” as a kid. My nerdom is well rounded, I actually like Star Trek and Star Wars, which as many nerds know, is frowned upon in the nerd community. Personally I don’t understand why nerds feel the need to split hairs.

Into to Darkness rocks, basically from start to finish. As I learned via Wikipedia, there were several references to the original films, and twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

Also SPOILER ALERT: Zoe Saldana wearing yoga pants IN 3-D! WOW!

I don’t like to give away too much, but I had to say it, I was not expecting that, so I’m just warning you fellows out there, so just breathe, relax, and enjoy, because it’s not a long cameo, but it does make for a lasting impression.

And before the ladies get upset, SPOILER ALERT: Chris Pine takes his shirt off at least once, so there.

Now onto the plot, James T. Kirk has to learn some humility, but just as he is beginning his lesson, tragedy strikes and as they say on the play ground, “it’s on.” Kirk and the crew end up chasing a terrorist into hostile, Klingon, space.

Of course there is some surprise information, and the aforementioned worst kept secret. Lessons are learned and more awesomeness happens.

“Into Darkness” lights up the screen and entertains the whole time. Go see it.
