Mrs. Alma Lee “Billie” Verner Cross, age 82 of Copperhill, TN passed away on Sunday, May 5,2013, at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN. Mrs. Cross was born on Saturday January 17, 1931 in Liberty, NC and was the daughter of the late Horace Verner and Nancy Self Verner. She was the wife of the late Jewell Cross. Mrs. Cross had worked for Life Care Center of Copper Basin. She was a member of Turtletown Baptist Church. Mrs. Cross enjoyed flowers, gardening and crafts.
Surviving are son, Mark T. Cross of Ducktown, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Jerry Stillwell of Copperhill, TN; grandchildren, Vaughn and Christie Stillwell of Mineral Bluff, GA and Libby and John Tranthem of Copperhill, TN; great-grandchildren, Samantha Tranthem, Elizabeth Tranthem, Corey Sitllwell, Matthew Ballew and Mason Ballew: brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Carolyn Verner of Chatsworth, GA; sister-in-law, Regina Verner of Chatsworth, GA; many nieces; nephews; great nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be at 11 :00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Akins of Copperhill Chapel with the Rev. Alan Pickelsimer and Rev. Kenneth Montgomery officiating. Music will be by Rodney Pickelsimer. Pallbearers will be David Stillwell, Vince Verner, Harold Verner, James Verner, Keith Dilbeck and Jeff Collins. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tex Cross, David Cross, Pete Elrod and Bob Galloway. Interment will follow in Macedonia (Wolf Creek) Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 from 11 :00 a. m. until 9:00 p. m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com. Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill is in charge of the arrangements.
