The Fannin County CERT Team in cooperation with Fannin County Emergency Management Agency has been awarded a grant in the amount of $12,141.00 for equipment and training materials. The grant specified that the equipment be purchased by GEMA (Georgia Emergency Management Agency) and then dispersed to the local CERT Teams through the local EMA.
Fannin County EMA Director Robert Graham and Deputy Director Darrell Payne, picked the equipment up at GEMA headquarters in Atlanta last Friday and delivered it to the Fannin County Cert Team. Graham said that the equipment included medical supplies, CERT backpacks, fire extinguishers, lights and portable stretchers to be used for both training and real disasters as needed by the teams. Also, included were laptop computers and projectors for use in training new CERT members as well as continuing education for current members.
Graham said that a second grant for additional equipment in the amount of approximately $10,000 has also been approved, but specific details have not been released yet as far as what equipment will be available. The equipment from this grant will also be allocated to the local CERT teams.
