Mr. Donald Hugh Petty, age 80, of Blue Ridge, GA passed away Friday, March 22, 2013 at his home. Born in Blue Ridge, GA he was the son of the late Frank and Alta Reece Petty. Mr. Petty served his country in the United States Coast Guard. He was a retired Truck Driver after thirty years of service. Mr. Petty was a member and Deacon of Glen Hope Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by two siblings; Frank Petty and Alimae Smith.

Survivors include his wife of fifty eight years, Jeanette Kell Petty of the Home; children; the Rev. Mike and Debbie Petty of Lavonia, GA, Ken and Cindy Petty of Blue Ridge, GA and Tony Petty of Blairsville, GA; grandchildren, Jennifer and Jason Barbour, Heather and Adam Patillo, John and Jennifer Petty, Bethany Petty, Jessica and Andy Newberry, Holly and Clint Davenport, Samantha Petty and Cassie Petty, Ashley Petty, Kayla Petty, Kim Petty and Kevin Petty; great grandchildren, Caitlyn Barbour, Ian Barbour, Catherine Barbour, Caroline Barbour, Bryan Patillo, Andrew Patillo, Clay Davenport, Darian Davenport, Graylen Davenport, Meleah Davenport, Eli Newberry, Chandler Newbery, Brady Newberry, Alana Jones, Cooper Petty, and Sydney Petty; sister, Hazel Forrester of Mebane, NC; sister-in-law, Elsie Petty of Blue Ridge, GA; special extended family member, Vanessa Wilbanks of Ellijay, GA.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday March 24, at 3:00 p.m. from the Glen Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. James Worley, the Rev. Mike Petty officiating. Music will be provided by the Glen Hope Baptist Church Choir. Graveside services will follow in the Copper Ridge Memory Gardens with Rev. Lamar O’Neal officiating. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Mike Bowers, Jack Housley, Greg O’Neal, Buddy Rogers, Jeremy Hedden, and John McClure. Serving as an Honorary Escort will be: Brent McHan, Leo Davis, Jimmy Thurman, Ray Chris, Ronnie Abernathy, Leroy Holloway, J.E. Cochran, Thomas Petty, Jim Ross, Johnny Montgomery, Jerry Williams, Winford Petty, and Chris Foresman. Mr. Petty will lie in state at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the funeral hour of 3:00 p.m.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6-9 p.m. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to Hospice advantage. Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge, GA is in charge of the arrangements.
