The Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge announces the home going of Mrs. Opal Mae Queen Whitlow, age 88 of Blue Ridge, GA who passed away on Friday, November 16, 2012 at the Life Care Center of Copper Basin in Ducktown, TN. She was born on August 18, 1924 in Fannin County, GA. Mrs. Whitlow was a homemaker. She was a devoted Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church of Epworth, GA. Mrs. Whitlow was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Henry Whitlow, Jr.; a son, Doug Whitlow; a grandson, Jason Mull and a great-grand-daughter, Brittany Sandieler.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Larry Mull of Mineral Bluff, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jennie Whitlow of Turtletown, TN; seven grandchildren, Tony Whitlow, James Whitlow, Tracey Whitlow, Stephen Whitlow, Melissa Whitlow, Jessica Whitlow and Jared Mull and eleven great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from the First Baptist Church of Epworth with Rev. Billy Ray Queen and Rev. Dr. Tom Jordan officiating. Mrs. Whitlow will lie in state at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour of 2:00 p.m. Music will be by the A.C. Caylor Family. Pallbearers will be Jared Mull, James Whitlow, Stephen Whitlow, Ronny Twiggs, Larry Queen and Kenny Queen. Interment will follow in Copper Ridge Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family request a donation to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, St. Jude Tribute Program, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
