Heat Fannin Receives Grant

Written by Melissa GriffinDuring its October meeting, Heat Fannin announced that it recently received a grant from Tri-State EMC in the amount of $1500 to be used for winterizing households to stay warm during the cold weather. Applicants are considered for this service through North Georgia Community Action. They have two locations selected to consider for this service and will make the decision in the coming months.

The group also discussed heating assistance during the meeting and announced levels of heating assistance. Families may apply for help if they meet the income requirements and receive one of two levels of assistance, totaling up to $360 paid directly to their heating service provider. Last year, this program helped 26 families.

For those families using wood to heat their homes, Family Connections is providing help by supplying wood. Families in need of this service may contact Family Connections at 706-632-6063 for additional information.

Family Connections is also looking for anyone who is willing to donate any unwanted wood and help split and stack the donated wood.

“We’re looking for volunteers to go retrieve the wood from residents willing to donate it”

Family Connections Representative Linda Mahan said.

Anyone interested in donating wood and/or their time to help with any other task may contact Family Connections at the above number.

To conclude the meeting, Jane Kimzey discussed ways to raise more funds to help additional families. Heat Fannin will also accept any monetary donations, which may be dropped off at Family Connections on Ada Street or mailed to:
