Nutrition Education Taught to WFES Students

“You Toucan get hooked on Fruits and Vegetables” was the September Nutrition Education lesson being taught to West Fannin Students.Included was a demonstration on the school TV/News using fruits and veggies making wraps that the students could make at home. While hoping to encourage the students to increase their fruit and veggie intake Nutrition Manager, Theresa Brown, had the idea to have the students help Fannin County increase theirs.

So a campaign was started. Students and staff were encouraged to bring in cans of fruits and vegetables to be donated to the Fannin AmeriCorps Food Pantry. Rallied by 2nd grade Teacher, Mary Jean Pace, the 2nd grade students contributed 221 of the 401 cans collected. Doug Davenport with AmeriCorps came to pick up the boxes of cans and talked to the 2nd grade representatives and thanked everyone for the donations.
